You Need

  • Device
  • Internet
  • Notebook or digital portfolio for brainstorming

Think About

  • The technical knowledge you need for landscape design (functional considerations)
  • The elements and principles of landscape design (aesthetic considerations)
  • The implications of covid on health safety requirements

Let's do something!

  1. 1

    Research Time

    a. If you are unsure of important context considerations, research into them (find helpful resources below)

    b. Research into the elements and principles of landscape design (find helpful resources below)

    Research Time

Think about context considerations and the elements and principles of design

  2. 2

    Get Brainstorming!

Take key points from your research and create a mega brainstorm reflecting important context considerations you need to make and the elements and principles of landscape design you must implement

Tips & tricks

Remember that functional and aesthetic considerations include:

  • Understanding your site for both plant selection and intended use
  • Understanding the user by considering what they want and need
  • Deciding on a design style to help structure shapes and spaces
  • Follow the regulating line
  • Understanding the function of plants for both the environment and the user
  • Structuring plantings by using massing and layering techniques (Scale, form)
  • Obey the law of significant enclosure
  • Link spaces by designating specific areas to specific uses (such as seating, walking, etc.), and linking with design elements (line)
  • Use the golden rectangle to get proportions right
  • Highlight important features such as transition areas and focal points
  • Thinking about materials, colour, and surface textures
  • Time considerations around growth and maintenance of plants
  • Using sustainable design practises
