  1. NATURAL LIGHT IN A HOME

Natural light is a resource that is vital to the survival of plant life and therefore us. Without it, the world we know wouldn't be the same, and we wouldn't be who we are.

There is increasing evidence of its importance in our daily lives, and therefore homes. This is why the use of natural light is a key part of this project, and a key principle that we should all regularly practice in our homes, influencing our lives.

"I sense Light as the giver of all presences, and material as spent Light. What is made by Light casts a shadow, and the shadow belongs to Light."

    - Louis Kahn.

    NATURAL LIGHT IN A HOME

Natural light passing through line work, casting shadows.

  1. A45

The three L's I came across during this project.

  1. Natural light use on the outside of the home creates a unique sense of connection to the environment.

relaxing experience is had when sunlight passes through the laser-cut aluminium panels on the facade. The sense of tactility had with the lines of light and shadow focuses the mind on the little things in life that are quite special.

A connection to the importance of natural light is felt when it casts shadows over a home. It feels more physical when it does so, becoming a statement piece that relaxes the mind.

    A23

The wooden slats that run along the facade gap cause light to 'dance' overhead as they repeatedly block and unblock the sunlight.

  1. A1

Looking down through the facade, the unique laser-cut aluminium panels can be seen.

  1. Laser-cut aluminium panels line the facade of the home, as well as windows across the bathroom and laundry.

These panels allow light to pass through, creating a unique, warming and natural ambience in spaces that would otherwise feel sterile and cold.

Additionally, privacy is created fluidly with the panel across the bathroom window.

    A37

These panels can be personalised, giving them a pattern that relates to the home owner specifically.

  1. Natural light use is particularly special and important within a home.

dark home is an unhealthy home, and the importance of natural light for our wellbeing may be greater than most people realise.

The beauty of natural light use in a home is that it is abundant, and its qualities change across the day, making the room feel warm, refreshing and importantly revitalising.

    I5

The house length skylight allows plenty of natural light into the home, while creating a unique atmosphere with the panels that line it.

  1. A36

Regenerate the mind. Enjoy the warmth and beauty of natural light.

  1. I9

Light passing through the laser-cut aluminium panel in the bathroom creates a warmth atmosphere.
